GRIP2’s patented umbrellas feature a slidable, ergonomic, second grip that can be located & locked anywhere on the shaft. Providing you leverage. Positioned closer to the canopy, GRIP2 provides much greater control in windy conditions; depending on grip location, you’ll need 15-70% LESS force to stabilize the umbrella. No more grabbing the skinny shaft, which quickly causes fatigue in the fingers/hand/wrist. Greater control helps you stay drier.
In calm conditions, position GRIP2 where it’s most comfortable for you. Based on the conditions. Based on personal preference.
And by locating GRIP2 higher up the shaft, closer to the center of gravity, the umbrella feels lighter!
The slidable grip is also used to auto-open and manually close the umbrella.
Control. Comfort. And convenience!
You can’t control the weather, but now you can comfortably control your umbrella like never before!
Vented canopies work in gusts, but GRIP2’s Adjustable Grip Technology works for you all the time! Giving you control. Giving you a grip where you want it. Keeping you drier. There are a lot of golf umbrellas out there, but only one offers real control; only one has a GRIP2.

GRIP2: Developed by “Rocket Scientists”
The GRIP2 umbrella was developed by STINGR Solutions LLC. Orlando-based STINGR – a privately owned company founded in late 2007 – primarily provides consulting services to high-tech development companies in the defense, homeland security and biotech industries. STINGR engineers have been responsible for conceptualizing and developing missile guidance sensors, landmine and IED detection sensors, through wall motion sensors, broadband communication links, and surveillance systems.
So why did STINGR invent something for the golf market, and why an umbrella?
Out of necessity! The idea for GRIP2 was conceived by STINGR’s founder while playing in a charity golf tournament in Orlando, FL. What started out as a warm, sunny fall afternoon quickly turned into a tough challenge, as wind and rain made playing conditions difficult. It was nearly impossible to stabilize the umbrella overhead, while also trying to keep the golf glove and club grip dry. Most golfers have experienced this many times. It’s tough to stay focused and hit good shots under these conditions.
STINGR’s founder, being a golfer and an engineer, saw a problem and a solution. He noted that the umbrella grip is in the worst possible location – farthest away from the canopy – thereby multiplying the amount of force needed to counter the wind and stabilize the umbrella. That’s the physics problem. Grabbing the shaft improves things, but it places too much stress on the fingers/hand/arm and quickly creates fatigue. That’s not what you want on the golf course, or anywhere else. That’s the human factors engineering problem.
The innovative, patented solution: add a slidable, ergonomic grip that can be moved anywhere on the shaft and locked in place. That addresses the physics and the human factors issues. And helps you stay dry.
The GRIP2 design isn’t rocket science, but STINGR still took it seriously. Quality is evident throughout the design, from the frame, to the grips, down to small details like the location of tie straps to cover the ends of the furled canopy. Why is that important? When golfers put their closed umbrella in the golf bag umbrella holder, the loose, flapping canopy ends often snag, making removal difficult. STINGR also eliminated all slots in the umbrella shaft where spring latches normally go, and instead used the secondary grip itself to grab and hold the runner. This removes known weak points where umbrella shafts can break, particularly near the handle on auto-open umbrellas.
